Point guard Jordan McLaughlin commits to USC

McLaughlin chose USC over conference rival UCLA, to give Andy Enfield his first major signing.

Jordan McLaughlin, ranked the No. 4 point guard in 2014 according to ESPN, committed to USC on Wednesday.

McLaughlin is Andy Enfield’s first top 20 commit as the former Florida Gulf Coast head coach looks to inject some excitement into a program that is just 20-44 in the last two years. The guard joins forward Malik Price-Martin as the second commitment in the Trojans’ 2014 class.

Not only is USC getting a highly touted guard in McLaughlin, but the commitment is also a major recruiting victory for the Trojans. He chose USC over UCLA, who many favored to sign him until the Bruins fired Ben Howland. McLaughlin also considered Kansas and Indiana.

McLaughlin is known as a scoring guard who can put up points in a hurry, both by driving inside and shooting the three. Though he’s only 6-0, his quickness and basketball IQ make up for his height.

Even with McLaughlin locked up for 2014, Enfield is still hard at work on the recruiting trail. The Trojans host five-star recruit Stanley Johnson for an official visit on Sept. 20.
