Small forward Terry Larrier, ranked as high as the No. 21 prospect in the Class of 2014, has verbally committed to play for the VCU Rams, Jeff Borzello of CBSsports.com reported Monday. Larrier had narrowed his decision down to VCU and the Connecticut Huskies.

Shaka Smart just landed his best recruit in five years at VCU.

Larrier is ranked as the No. 21 prospect according to 247Sports.com, whereas the 247 Composite rankings that consider multiple recruiting rankings has him as the No. 44 player in the upcoming class. Either way, he’s the highest-graded prospect to commit to head coach Shaka Smart since he took over the Rams in 2009, and he’s the third four-star recruit in that time span.
Larrier, a 6’8 forward, is expected to fit right in to Smart’s high-octane pressure defense—the Havoc, as it’s known—because of his length and size, Borzello said. He’s also a skilled shooter who can stretch all the way out to the perimeter.
Larrier is the third recruit to commit to VCU for the 2014 class, joining two three-star gets: point guard Jonathan Williams and power forward Justin Tillman. The Rams’ class currently ranks No. 20 in the 2014 class and first in the Atlantic 10, according to 247.
