Travis Ford may have found Marcus Smart’s replacement.

Newberry, considered one of the top junior college point guards in the class, chose Oklahoma State over the Connecticut Huskies and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. One of the factors in his decision to choose the Cowboys, according to Goodman, was the prospect of replacing Marcus Smart.
Smart, who chose to come back to school after a stellar freshman season, is already planning on entering the 2014 NBA draft barring injury, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears.
Newberry originally signed to play for the Ole Miss Rebels, where he redshirted as a freshman in 2011-12. He then transferred to New Mexico Junior College last season.
The 6’2 point guard took an official visit to Oklahoma State last weekend, committing a week later.
