Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall gets significant raise

The Wichita State Shockers made their first Final Four in 48 years last season, and coach Gregg Marshall was rewarded with a significant raise as the upcoming season nears. The school announced the raise Monday, which will boost Marshall’s base salary to $1.6 million for the upcoming season and to $1.75 million starting in April 2014.

Marshall’s base salary prior to the raise was $1.03 million, according to Paul Sullentrop of the Kansas City Star. Marshall is working on a rolling seven-year deal, meaning a year is added to the end of the contract at the end of each season.

The amended contract also added to the pool of money Marshall can use to hire his three assistant coaches and director of basketball operations. That pool is now at $501,000, according to the release. The Kansas City Star’s report said the pool was previously $376,000.

Marshall is 139-70 in six seasons with the Shockers. Last season’s 30 wins were the most in school history, topping the 29-8 record Marshall compiled in 2010-11.
