The NCAA has cleared former Missouri guard Michael Dixon to play this season for the Memphis Tigers, Memphis head coach Josh Pastner told USA Today.

Dixon was suspended for the first six games of 2012-13 for Missouri, then decided to leave the program after being accused of sexual assault on two separate occasions. No charges were filed in either case.

The addition of Dixon gives Pastner a quartet of senior guards to work with next year. The fifth-year coach was already counting on Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford and Geron Johnson in the backcourt.

His father, Michael Dixon Sr., commended Memphis for giving his son another chance. He told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal:

“I’d be remiss if I didn’t say the work of Josh Pastner and the people at the University of Memphis have been unbelievable. The diligence that they put in on checking Michael’s background and finding out information about him, and then, once they found out this was a kid they would be willing to take a chance on, going out and putting in the work and getting this done.”

In two seasons at Missouri, Dixon averaged 13.5 points and 3.3 assists per game as the sixth man.
