The 2012 NEC Player of the Year suffered his second torn ACL in nine months.

LIU Brooklyn forward Julian Boyd will miss at least half of the 2013-14 season with a torn ACL, CBS Sports reported.

It is the second torn ACL in the last nine months for the 2012 Northeast Conference Player of the Year. CBS says he suffered the injury in July and underwent surgery shortly thereafter.

The injury comes in Boyd's sixth year of eligibility. He sat out the 2009-10 season because of a heart condition, then tore his ACL for the first time eight games into last season. At the time of the injury, he was averaging 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Blackbirds, who were on their way to their third straight conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth.

CBS’s Jon Rothstein pegged January as the “best case” scenario for Boyd’s return.

The Blackbirds had been counting on Boyd and forward Jamal Olasewere to carry the team this season. Olasewere led LIU in scoring (18.9 points per game) and rebounding (8.6 per game) last season.
