College basketball scores: Stanford pulls off road upset at Oregon, 82-80

The Ducks continued to struggle in the Pac-12, while Stanford continued to be an enigma as it pulled a big road upset.

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

Stanford staved off a last-minute rally to upset the Oregon Ducks in Eugene on Sunday night, 82-80. The Cardinal got a career-high 24 points from Anthony Brown, who hit 10 of his 12 field goal attempts.

Stanford led by four at the break and never trailed in the second half, but the Cardinal’s lead was never comfortable. After Stanford took a nine-point lead on a Brown jumper early in the half, Oregon fought back on multiple occasions to cut the gap to one possession.

The Cardinal held a six-point edge with a minute left, only to see the Ducks pull back to within two -- they had a shot to tie in the waning seconds, but a Dominic Artis layup attempt was no good and the Cardinal held on.

Mike Moser led the Ducks with 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting. The Ducks finished the day shooting 52.2 percent.

In addition to the 24 it got from Brown, Stanford got 23 points from Chasson Randle. Stanford shot 52.6 percent from the field.

No. 1 Arizona 73, USC 53

The Wildcats continued their perfect season against the Trojans on Sunday night with a convincing win to likely keep them at No. 1 in the polls for the sixth straight week.

Freshman phenom Aaron Gordon didn't put up huge numbers in the box score -- he finished with 12 points and eight rebounds -- but he did come up with this impressive reverse alley oop slam and this fast break block, preventing what would have been an easy dunk:

The Wildcats didn't play all that well coming off a big road win over UCLA, though the game was never really in question outside of the opening minutes. T.J. McConnell continued his fine year with a season-high 19 points along with six assists and four rebounds, while Brandon Ashley had 19 and Nick Johnson scored 15. The win improves UA to 17-0, their best start to a season in school history.

No. 13 San Diego State 79, Air Force 72

After a tightly contested first half, the Aztecs opened the second on a 17-7 run to give themselves a 14-point lead and take control of the game. The Falcons fought back to within seven points with about 90 seconds left, but they would get no closer.

San Diego State got a balanced effort at the offensive end, with five players finishing with double-digit points, led by JJ O’Brien’s 18. Both O’Brien and Josh Davis recorded double-doubles. Thanks in large part to their efforts, the Aztecs grabbed more than 41 percent of their missed shots.

Air Force got a huge performance from Tre’ Coggins, who poured in a game-high 29 points on 11-for-18 shooting. Coggins accounted for five of AFA’s seven made three pointers on the day. The Falcons shot 51.9 percent from the field as a team.

The victory improves the Aztecs’ record to 14-1 and they remain perfect in the Mountain West at 3-0. Air Force dropped to 8-7 (2-2).

Northwestern 49, No. 23 Illinois 43

In a game that was as ugly as the final score, the Wildcats picked up a big conference win over the Illini with an impressive defensive showing. UI had just 15 points at the half, and despite a bit of a late push in the closing minutes, it just couldn’t make enough shots down the stretch to come back.

Illinois shot just 28 percent from the floor and went 4-for-19 from behind the arc, with only Tracy Abrams reaching double figures in scoring. Northwestern was led by Drew Crawford's 13 points, while JerShon Cobb and Tre Demps chipped in with 11 points apiece.

The loss will surely drop the Illini out of the top 25. Northwestern is still below .500 on the year with the win, but with a daunting stretch of schedule coming, Chris Collins and his staff will take everything they can get against the Big Ten.

UCLA 87, Arizona State 72

The Bruins bounced back nicely from their loss to No. 1 Arizona with a convincing win over the Sun Devils at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA dropped 50 points on ASU in the first half, headlined by a couple of highlight reel plays from freshman Zach LaVine. The Sun Devils made a run to cut the deficit to single digits late in the second half, but ran out of gas in the closing minute.

LaVine led the Bruins with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Kyle Anderson continued his stellar sophomore campaign with 17 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, while Jordan Adams had 15 points and seven boards.

Jahii Carson really struggled, scoring just nine points on 4-for-17 shooting. Carson also turned the ball over four times. Jermaine Marshall led Arizona State with 25 points.
