Arizona vs. Washington State final score: No. 1 Wildcats thrash Cougars, 60-25

Arizona held WSU to just seven first-half points, proving that their defense is what makes them the nation’s top team.

The Arizona Wildcats put on one of the more impressive displays in college basketball this season, shellacking the Washington State Cougars in a 60-25 victory Thursday. The Wildcats held the Cougars to just seven first-half points, easily outpacing their conference mates for an easy win to start their Pac-12 season.

The nation’s No. 1 team held their opponents to 20 percent shooting on the day, one of the worst performance by a power-conference team this season. The Cougars followed their seven-point first half by scoring seven more points over the next ten minutes.

Arizona didn't need much on offense to win, but got a balanced performance from its deep roster. Center Kaleb Tarczewski led the way with 11 points while super frosh Aaron Gordon had 5 points and ten rebounds. The Wildcats blocked six Cougar shots and outrebounded WSU 42-28.

The next test for the top-ranked team will be a trip to Westwood to play UCLA next Thursday. The Wildcats play Washington on Saturday, but the sad-sack Huskies should offer little more resistance to the Wildcats than their in-state rivals.
