Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks have been impressive since being embarrassed by Kentucky on national television in the second game of the season. The Jayhawks headed into their Monday night game with Temple at 9-1, with wins over Michigan State, Florida, Georgetown and Utah in the non-conference slate. This seemed like a nice and easy tuneup for Kansas before Big 12 play starts. It proved to be anything but.

Temple handed Kansas a 77-52 loss at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly. The Owls dominated both halves with tough interior defense, crisp ball movement and shot making. Temple finished the night shooting 58.3 percent from the floor.

The fans in Philly were excited about it:

Three Temple starters finished in double-figures. Will Cummings finished with 19 points and four assists, Quenton DeCosey had 18 points and Jesse Morgan chipped in 17 points. Here’s one of Morgan’s three three-pointers:

Kansas was brutal all around. The Jayhawks turned the ball over 17 times (13 in the first half) and shot just 32.1 percent from the field. Kansas’ best scorer, power forward Perry Ellis, finished 1-of-10 from the field for five points on the night. Only Frank Mason Jr. (20 points on 8-of-15 shooting) came to play.

Making it even better? Fran Dunphy took his team on the subway on their way to the game:

Temple moves to 8-4 with the win. Kansas has two games left before Big 12 play starts. If the Jayhawks are going to win their 11th straight conference title, they will have to be better than they were against Temple.
