The Kansas State Wildcats won their second big home game in a row, fighting off a late Kansas push and topping the No. 7 Jayhawks 85-82 on Monday night.

Marcus Foster scored 20 points for Kansas State (17-7, 7-4), leading an offense that was 30 for 61 from the floor.
The Wildcats led 68-61 with 1:30 to go in regulation, but Kansas’ Brannen Greene scored on a putback dunk, then stole the ball at the basket on the ensuing inbounds play and made an easy layup to bring Kansas within one possession with over a minute to go, the first time since the five-minute mark that Kansas had been within one possession.
Andrew Wiggins missed a floater with less than 10 seconds to go, but his putback of his own miss tied the game at 69 with 6.9 seconds in regulation. Kansas State fumbled the ball at the other end and turned the ball over before getting a shot off to potentially break the tie.
Wiggins’ putback to force overtime was a much better effort than his shot about 40 seconds earlier, a three that would have tied the game at 68:

The Jayhawks fell to 9-2 in Big 12 play, but their toughest road games are now behind them after Tuesday’s trip to Manhattan. Kansas’ remaining road games in league play are to Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and West Virginia (where Iowa State lost by 25 on Monday).
The Wildcats now have their best win of the season on a resume that badly needed one. Early-season losses to Northern Colorado and Charlotte still sting, but the Wildcats are now 6-5 this season against teams in KenPom.com’s top 50.
