Mountain West Tournament 2014 schedule and bracket: Lobos and Aztecs duke it out in top-seeded matchup

The final is shaping up to be the game everybody expected.

Josh Holmberg-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday's championship game in the Mountain West seemed destined from the start, as the San Diego State Aztecs take on the New Mexico Lobos. These teams have played each other tough during the regular season and are eager to take the advantage with the series tied at 1-1.

Despite getting jumped on early by fourth-seeded UNLV, the No. 1 Aztecs were able to pull out a win to put themselves in the championship game. It was an offensive struggle, with San Diego State shooting 36 percent from the floor. A career-high (against Division-I competition) 18 points from Dwayne Polee II helped push the Aztecs through the Runnin' Rebels.

For the No. 2 seed Lobos, it took a Cameron Bairstow jumper and game-sealing free throws with under a minute left to squeak out a victory, 70-67, against the Boise State Broncos. Bairstow finished with 23 points on 4-of-9 shooting, adding eight rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. DeShawn Delaney contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the entirety of New Mexico's 70 point-effort came from their starters.

The Lobos will be looking to take home their third-straight Mountain West Conference championship on Saturday. San Diego State were previous back-to-back champions from 2009-2011.
