College basketball scores: Wisconsin drops Penn State for 7th straight win

The Badgers are cruising, Iowa is back on track and the Villanova Wildcats routed Marquette.

Wisconsin Badgers 71, Penn State Nittany Lions 66

Traevon Jackson dropped in 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting, dished five assists and added two steals as the Badgers moved up the rankings in the Big Ten by beating the Nittany Lions on Sunday. Wisconsin made a point of getting to the line often and early, shooting 19-of-24 from the charity stripe compared to just 9-of-13 for Penn State.

Turnovers and assists won the game for the Badgers, who were plus-six in assists and logged seven steals. For Penn State, 23 points from D.J. Newbill wasn't enough to hold off the balanced Wisconsin attack as the Badgers notched their seventh win in a row.

Villanova Wildcats 73, Marquette Golden Eagles 56

The eighth-ranked Wildcats won their fourth game in a row and stay a game ahead of Creighton in the Big East standings despite shooting a middling 43 percent from the field. Darrun Hilliard II made up for it, and more. The 6'6 swingman scored 26 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and he did it in multiple ways, hitting 5-of-8 three-point looks and getting to the foul line 10 times.

Marquette struggled with its offense and went 40 percent shooting for the day. It hit 27 percent from three-point range and missed nine of its 25 total free throw attempts. Deonte Burton and Todd Mayo led the Golden Eagles with 13 and 11 points, respectively, but no other Marquette player scored in double-figures.

Iowa Hawkeyes 83, Purdue Boilermakers 76

Roy Devyn Marble scored 21 points to go with five assists, and forward Aaron White added 15 points and 10 boards as the No. 20 Hawkeyes held off a stingy Purdue squad to keep up with the rest of the Big Ten. The Boilermakers were led by a 16-point, 14-rebound, four-block outing by center A.J. Hammons, but couldn't hold the Iowa offense down the stretch.

Both teams came into Sunday on three-game losing streaks, and the Hawkeyes’ win gets them back on track before completing the regular season schedule with a road game against No. 18 Michigan State and a home game against Illinois.
