2014 NIT bracket and schedule: Robert Morris and Belmont open the NIT 2nd round
Just in case you needed even more basketball on Friday night.

As the NCAA Tournament's second (er, third) round ends Friday, the second round of the NIT begins with No. 8 seed Robert Morris facing No. 5 seed Belmont in Nashville. Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET, with television coverage on ESPNU.
Robert Morris earned a second consecutive automatic berth in the NIT by winning the Northeast Conference regular season title and losing the conference's automatic NCAA spot in a stunning defeat to Mount St. Mary's. The Colonials followed last year's stunning NIT first-round upset of Kentucky with style, taking out top seed St. John's on Tuesday night behind 38 points from guard Karvel Anderson and 25 from forward Lucky Jones.
Belmont also got an automatic bid to the NIT by dropping out early from the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. The Bruins had won 17 of their last 19 games before the tournament loss to Eastern Kentucky, though, and beat North Carolina in November. Belmont is one of the nation’s best-shooting teams, ranking second nationally in effective field goal percentage and sinking more than 39 percent of three-point attempts.
The winner of Friday night’s contest will face the winner of Sunday’s Clemson-Illinois game in the NIT quarterfinals.
