Sweet 16 scores: Frank Kaminsky leads Wisconsin to Elite Eight in blowout of Baylor

Two separate 8-0 runs within the first 11 minutes gave the Badgers a lead that would not be relinquished.

If it weren’t for a Cory Jefferson layup in the first 16 seconds of the game, Wisconsin would have led Baylor wire-to-wire in its Sweet Sixteen 69-52 thrashing of the Bears.

Frank Kaminsky caused problems all game for the Bears, both offensively and defensively. The seven-footer’s drives to the hoop and finishing ability once he met the rim were just too much, leading to a game-high 19 points. His size inside on defense affected anything Baylor tried to do offensively, which was a big part of the Bears’ 30 percent shooting from the field. Kaminsky finished with a career high of six blocks.

UW’s top shooter, guard Ben Brust, had himself a very efficient offensive game. He shot five-of-seven from the field, including three threes. The Brust family passion for Wisconsin basketball doesn’t stop at Ben, who finished with 14.

That is Ben’s brother, doing his best to keep the crowd energized for his brother’s Badgers despite UW already holding a 20-point lead. Energy and effort abound within this family.

Wisconsin was able to keep Baylor’s top shooter, Brady Heslip, from having a large effect on the game, holding him to three points on one-of-six shooting from the field. Leading the Bears in scoring was senior forward Cory Jefferson, with 15 points.

Wisconsin will play the winner of the Arizona vs. San Diego State game on Sunday.
