Kevin Ware is transferring to Georgia State

The heart and soul of Louisville’s national title run in 2013 appears headed to Georgia State, where he will likely have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

One year after traumatically breaking his leg in front of a national audience, former Louisville guard Kevin Ware has apparently announced he will transfer to Georgia State.

It was speculated that Georgia State was one of the favorites to land Ware’s services once he decided to leave Louisville in March. It is unclear at the moment just how the next few years of Ware’s career look eligibility-wise; he was a junior this past season but played just 53 minutes for the Cardinals before he was shut down for the season. Ware is still waiting to hear whether or not the NCAA will grant him a medical redshirt.

If the redshirt is granted, Ware will have two years to play after sitting out in 2014-15, assuming the NCAA does not grant him a hardship waiver. If the NCAA does award a waiver, Ware will be able to suit up for Georgia State in the fall.

After losing six of their first nine games, the Panthers caught fire in mid-December as they went on to win 14 in a row and 22 of 23. Their dreams of an NCAA Tournament appearance were ended in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game as they fell to Louisiana-Lafeyette in overtime. With quite a bit of talent returning next season, including former Kentucky transfer Ryan Harrow, Georgia State is in good hands with coach Ron Hunter.
