Once again, it’s time for the NIT championship game at Madison Square Garden.

It wasn’t a cakewalk for either team to make the final game. Minnesota needed overtime on Tuesday to get past fellow No. 1 seed Florida State. SMU had a close scare against California in the quarterfinals, but had a bit of an easier time against Clemson in the Final Four.
There are plenty of storylines surrounding the game. Minnesota was on the tips of a lot of tongues when it came to discussing the snubs of the 2014 NCAA Tournament, and Richard Pitino and the Gophers seem intent on proving the selection committee wrong. SMU coach Larry Brown currently stands as the only coach to win both an NCAA and NBA championship, and he could possibly add a third postseason championship to his mantle.
The championship game takes place on Thursday, April 3, and will be shown nationally on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET. The game can be watched online via WatchESPN.
