After three busy weeks on the hardwood, just two teams remain in the women’s 2014 NCAA Tournament. On Tuesday, the Connecticut Huskies and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will battle for the national title. Neither team has lost a game this season, and just about everyone predicted this would be the championship matchup when the bracket was released.
2014 Women’s NCAA Tournament bracket results: Notre Dame, Connecticut cruise to championship game
The matchup everyone wanted to see will take place with the national title on the line on Tuesday.

Notre Dame blew out No. 4 seed Maryland on Sunday night, winning 87-61. Kayla McBride dropped 28 points on 12-of-21 shooting, while Jewell Loyd scored 16 points and Markisha Wright added 12 off the bench. Perhaps the most telling stat: the Irish out-rebounded the Terps by 29.
Connecticut only led Stanford by four points at halftime, but the Huskies completely dominated the second half, outscoring the Cardinal 47-32 on their way to a 75-56 victory. A decade after the UConn men’s and women’s teams both won the national title in 2004, they will have a chance to repeat history this week. All five Husky starters reached double digits in scoring.
