College basketball schedule and results: Gonzaga, St. Mary’s set for West Coast showdown
Graham’s coast-to-coast layup wins it for VCU

Friday was a quiet night in college basketball, but No. 16 VCU and Saint Louis gave us a pretty interesting game. The two teams were knotted up for most of the night in a physical contest that featured 42 combined fouls. VCU would hang on for victory thanks to this coast-to-coast lay-in from forward Treveon Graham as time ticked away.
VCU improves to 16-3 and 6-0 in the Atlantic 10. Saint Louis falls to 9-10, 1-5.

James Snook-USA TODAY SportsIt had been a rough shooting night for Washington’s brilliantly named guard Andrew Andrews, who was just 2-for-11 from the field before burying this buzzer-beater to lift the Huskies to a 52-50 win over Colorado.
The shot kept Washington, which started the season 11-0, from falling to 2-4 in Pac-12 play.

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsWith his team trailing by 1, NC State point guard Cat Barber was whistled for a foul in the closing seconds of his team’s eventual 65-60 loss at Miami. The play took him near the front row of Hurricane fans at the BankUnited Center, at which point one of the fans of The U felt the need to give Barber a light shove.
That should never happen, but credit Cat Barber for showing restraint not putting himself into a Marcus Smart-type situation.

David Banks-USA TODAY SportsNorthwestern had three fairly obvious goaltending calls go against it Thursday night against Ohio State, the most costly of which came in the game’s final minutes and made head coach Chris Collins lose his mind.
This came about an hour after this:

Caylor Arnold-USA TODAY SportsRemember this crazy spin pass from D’Angelo Russell last weekend? Well he did it again Thursday night against Northwestern, only this time he got the much-deserved credit for an assist.
Update: He’s got handles and a three-point shot, too:

Read Article >The story behind why Baylor played an NAIA school

Ray Carlin-USA TODAY SportsBaylor’s game against Huston-Tillotson was the biggest head-scratcher on Wednesday night’s schedule. The Bears are No. 21 in the polls and Huston-Tillotson is an NAIA school. Major programs such as Baylor play small schools like this all the time, but never in the middle of conference play.
Well, it appears there is more to this story than was originally evident. The schools were hoping to film a second “Coach Carter” movie during the game featuring the real coach Carter -- 56-year-old Texas resident Ken Carter -- playing for Huston-Tillotson. When the plan fell through, Baylor still honored the contract.

The Big East has been surprisingly competitive this season in the second year of its new alignment, and Wednesday’s game between Marquette and St. John’s is another good example of two quality teams from the conference putting together an entertaining game.

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY SportsNebraska’s Shavon Shields apparently said something that referee Tom Eades did not appreciate, so Eades hit him with a T and then hit him with a “BOOM.” Literally.
I’m torn between thinking this is hilarious and infuriating, which means it’s probably both.

Reese Strickland-USA TODAY SportsWithout McKay -- who only became eligible in the second semester of the season -- Iowa State probably would not have beaten Kansas State on Tuesday night. The Wildcats were hanging with Iowa State at their notoriously difficult home court the entire way, but this dunk from McKay helped shift the tide in the Cyclones’ favor for good. Iowa State escaped, 77-71.

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY SportsThe Georgetown Hoyas scored easily their biggest win of the season Monday night, pounding No. 4 Villanova at home by a final score of 78-58. Afterward, things got a little weird.
One of the more bizarre court storms in college basketball history occurred after the final horn sounded, as the Georgetown students took to the floor despite the attempts of many of the older Hoya fans in the crowd to hold them back.

Kansas fell apart for a little while there against Oklahoma, and after D.J. Bennett scored a tip-in for the Sooners, Bill Self lost it:
