Duke’s Marshall Plumlee will commit to the U.S. Army in a ceremony Friday that goes into effect after he graduates, according to the Duke Chronicle.
Duke’s Marshall Plumlee is joining the army
The youngest Plumlee will be sworn in on Friday.

Plumlee joined the Duke ROTC program in 2012-13 and, after taking the following year off, has committed to the program moving forward. If he completes the requirements by spring 2016, he will become an Army officer.
While the junior has played three seasons for Duke, he hasn't had the same success as his brothers, playing nine minutes a game and averaging 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds. Both Mason and Miles Plumlee graduated from Duke and now start for the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns, respectively, in the NBA.
Marshall Plumlee's initial interest in the Army was developed during a team trip to Fort Bragg in Oct. 2012, per the Chronicle.
On that trip, Plumlee spoke with Lieutenant General Robert Brown, who played for Krzyzewski’s basketball team at West Point.1
“[I think that trip] got Marshall interested in the Army, and serving a cause bigger than himself,” Behm said.
Plumlee is the only varsity athlete in Duke’s Army ROTC program.
