Iowa led No. 4 Iowa State by as many as 20 points in Hilton Coliseum on Thursday night, but the Cyclones stormed back by dominating the final minutes for an 83-82 win. Monte Morris’ floater with nine seconds left was the go-ahead bucket and gave ISU its first lead since the game was 4-3 in the opening minutes.
Iowa was shooting the lights out for most of the night, hitting 11-of-27 shots from three-point range. ISU fought back by forcing turnovers and with a balanced scoring attack from four different players.
Jameel McKay and Monte Morris each scored 20 for Iowa State, while Matt Thomas added 19 points off the bench thanks to 6-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Georges Naing also chipped in 16 points in the win.
Iowa State stays undefeated with the win at 8-0. The Hawkeyes fall to 7-3.
