The Ivy League has been playing basketball since 1902, but the conference has never had a postseason tournament of its own. It appears that’s about to change.
Ivy League could add a conference tournament for basketball in 2016-17
A vote could come later this month.


The Ivy League is “seriously considering” adopting a postseason tournament to decide the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, according to Gary Parrish of CBS Sports. The tournament could be in place for the 2016-17 season.
The Ivy League’s entrant to the NCAA Tournament has always been decided by who wins the regular season. Parrish reports the added exposure that comes with a conference tournament title game on a major network is pushing Ivy League school presidents to contemplate the change in format. A vote could come later this month.
The Ivy League has produced some quality teams lately. Harvard has won the league each of the last four years (and tied with Princeton in 2010-11) and won an NCAA Tournament game in 2013 and 2014.
