ACC Tournament 2015 schedule and bracket: UNC, N.C. State cruise to 2nd round

The ACC Tournament continued on Wednesday with second-round action. Here’s a look at the scores and updated bracket.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The ACC Tournament may have started on Tuesday, but business really picked up on Wednesday with two key bubble matchups in the second round. Miami took care of business on its own end, but Pittsburgh's NCAA Tournament hopes could be over.

The Panthers were already on the wrong side of the bubble heading into the tournament. They ended the regular season with three straight losses and needed to make a deep run this weekend just to get back into the conversation. With a decisive loss to N.C. State, Pitt is almost certainly headed to the NIT.

Here’s a look at the second-round scores with a look ahead to Thursday’s action.

No. 10 Florida State 76, No. 8 Clemson 73

Clemson was down by 12 points with just 1:39 left to go in the game, but made a 15-4 run to get within two points with less than 30 seconds to go. It wasn't enough for the Tigers to extend their season, but still made the end of the game compelling. Xavier Rathan-Mayes led the Seminoles with 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting, while Phil Cofer grabbed seven rebounds. Florida State faces top seed Virginia on Thursday.

No. 5 North Carolina 81, No. 12 Boston College 63

Marcus Paige and Brice Johnson both scored 17 points to lead the Tar Heels, with Johnson pulling down nine rebounds and Paige dishing out nine assists. This game was never in doubt -- UNC took care of business and will get a rubber match with Louisville Thursday. The two teams split the regular-season series, with each side winning its home game.

No. 7 N.C. State 81, No. 10 Pittsburgh 70

The Wolfpack continued their strong run, shooting 53.1 percent from the field compared to Pitt's 43.4 percent. Anthony Barber was a monster for N.C. State, racking up 34 points on 9-of-13 shooting and draining 4-of-5 three-pointers. Trevor Lacey chipped in 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting. The Wolfpack get a Thursday date with Duke, the same team they beat at Cameron Indoor Stadium in January.

No. 6 Miami 59, No. 14 Virginia Tech 49

The Hokies threatened to blow up Miami's entire bubble when they took a 38-37 lead with less than nine minutes to go. However, the Hurricanes recovered soon enough and ended the game on a 15-6 run to see themselves through. Sheldon McClellan scored 16 points and Tonye Jekiri grabbed eight rebounds to lead Miami. The Hurricanes aren't out of the woods yet, but they avoided disaster on Wednesday and get a great chance to polish their resume against Notre Dame.
