CBI 2015: Bracket, schedule and scores
16 teams will compete in the eighth annual CBI.
The 16-team College Basketball Invitational starts on Tuesday night and features a field full of mid-majors.
Stony Brook is perhaps the most intriguing team in the field. Steve Pikiell's squad is making its second straight appearance in the event after losing in the America East title game for the fourth time in the last five years. The Seawolves will visit Mercer in a first-round game on ESPN3. Last year, the Bears shocked Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Stony Brook’s conference rival, Vermont, is also in the field. The Catamounts will travel to Hofstra for their first game on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in the CBI field, Colorado is the only power conference school to have accepted a bid. After finishing below .500 in the regular season, the Buffaloes will host Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. The winner of that game will face either Pepperdine or Seattle.
The 2015 CBI will use a 30-second shot clock as an experimental rule change, instead of the traditional 35.
The format
The 16-team field will include eight first-round games, all played on campus sites. The winners will advance to the quarterfinals, after which the field will be re-bracketed. When it gets down to two teams, the finalists will play a best-of-three series to determine the CBI champion. The championship series will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
