Iowa-Iowa State was the marquee game on Thursday night’s college basketball schedule, an inter-state rivalry both programs badly want to win. A struggling Hawkeyes team was able to pull a 78-64 upset at home, but Iowa State star Monte Morris wasn’t convinced.
Iowa State’s Monte Morris says Iowa ‘knows they’re not better than us’ after losing by 14
The Cyclones point guard is extra salty after losing a rivalry game.

Morris is right if you go by the always reliable KenPom, where the Cyclones are ranked No. 29 and Iowa is No. 76 even after Thursday night’s game. Heck, the Hawkeyes aren’t even ‘better’ than Northern Iowa, who check in at No. 75.
Iowa State is now 6-3 with losses to Cincinnati by one-point in OT, and another to a powerful Gonzaga team. Iowa’s win makes them 5-5, with losses to Seton Hall, Virginia, Memphis, Notre Dame, and Omaha. The same Omaha team Iowa State beat by 44, Iowa lost to by 9.
Whether Morris is right or wrong here, we can all agree he definitely sounds salty AF. This is why we love rivalry games.
