Will anybody be able to stop UConn this year?
UConn ran the table again, going into the NCAA Women’s Tournament 32-0 and 18-0 in conference play. The Huskies have always been dominant in the women’s game, but the past thee years have been an unprecedented run of success. Led by star Breanna Stewart, UConn won the national title three years in a row, and they’ll look to make history with a four-peat in 2016. No women’s school has ever won the tournament in four consecutive seasons.
Stewart had another dominant performance in her senior year, averaging 19.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. She is a lock to be the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft and looks to finish out her college career on a high note. Fellow senior Moriah Jefferson was nearly as efficient with 12.6 points and 5.4 assists, forming an unstoppable duo with Stewart.
If any team hopes to unseat the Huskies, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Baylor could have the best shot. Those teams are vying for the other No. 1 seeds, with teams like Maryland, Texas and Oregon State also among the top contenders.
