After a wild week in college basketball, a new No. 1 team sits atop the polls. The Villanova Wildcats have jumped to the top spot in the rankings at 10-0. Jay Wright’s team scored a marquee win over Gonzaga last week while three other top-five teams combined to lose five times.
NCAA basketball rankings 2017: Villanova is the new No. 1, while Arizona State surges into top 5
There’s a major shakeup in this week’s college basketball rankings.

Michigan State comes in at No. 2, with Wichita State at No. 3, Duke at No. 4 and Arizona State at No. 5.
Duke, who entered the week at No. 1, dropped to fifth after losing to Boston College. The Eagles got 30 points from sophomore guard Ky Bowman and hit 15 three-pointers to pull the upset.
Duke was far from the only top team to fall last week. Florida goes from No. 5 to unranked after three straight losses, including getting blown out by Florida State and shocked by Loyola-Chicago at home. Kansas also fell twice — to Washington and then Arizona Sate — and now sits at No. 13 in the polls after being No. 2 last week.
Arizona State remains arguably the most pleasant surprise of the early season. After defeating Kansas in Lawrence, the Sun Devils jump all the way from No. 16 to No. 5. ASU also has a neutral court win over Xavier this season.
