He is being issued a summons to appear in court for criminal damage to property of less than $1,000, according to The Lawrence Journal-World, classifying as a misdemeanor.
The incident has been under investigation by local authorities, with Jackson’s name surfacing on Friday. Officers concluded the woman threw a drink at Jackson’s friend that night. Jackson then allegedly followed the woman back to her car where the two began to argue and the damage occurred.
Her car was damaged in several places, according to The Lawrence Journal-World. Witnesses said Jackson kicked a door and a rear taillight.
A freshman standout, Jackson ranks second on the Jayhawks in both scoring (16.5 points per game) and rebounding (7.1 rebounds per game), helping lead No. 3 Kansas to a 25-3 record, best in the Big 12.
He is projected to be a top-five pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
The Jayhawks have had their fair share of controversy in recent weeks.
Junior guard Devonte’ Graham was released on bond on Wednesday after he was arrested for failing to appear in court, according to The Topeka Capital-Journal. His charges stemmed from an expired tag ticket from June of 2016.
Five Kansas players remain witnesses in an alleged rape investigation stemming from a December incident that happened at the dorm that houses members of the basketball team as well as other KU students. None of the players have been named as suspects.
