Vanderbilt took a one-point lead over Northwestern with 15 seconds in their first round matchup in the NCAA tournament. Then the Commodores made a major mistake: thinking his team had a foul to give, Vandy’s Matthew Fisher-Davis fouled Northwestern’s Bryant McIntosh.
Vanderbilt blew a late lead over Northwestern with a totally baffling foul
Vandy thought it had a foul to give. It didn’t.

But Vanderbilt didn’t have a foul to give. Instead, McIntosh stepped to the line for a one-and-one and calmly drained the tying and go-ahead free throw.
The Wildcats got a stop on the final possession and won their first NCAA tournament game ever.
This is a really unfortunate mistake for Fisher-Davis, who played an otherwise great game and finished with a team-high 22 points. He simply made a mental error in the clutch.
That’s part of the reason why the NCAA tournament is the most heart-stopping event in sports.
