It’s been awhile since the NCAA’s played tournament games in South Carolina, and one could assume that with the time off there would be some kinks to iron out. Or, maybe “sand out” is the better term.
NCAA tournament court in South Carolina broke on opening weekend
They fixed it between games, though.
The reason for the sanding appears to be a loose board in the floor that has since been fixed.
Doesn’t look like anyone got hurt, and the situation was fixed in time for the teams to warm up for the first game of the night session. Marquette (which will play in the night session) isn’t exactly a stranger to court oddities. In 2013, they had a game cancelled on an aircraft carrier due to condensation.
But there is a worst-case scenario with the floor issues here. If you think it’s not a big deal, remember a few years ago when a young basketball player got impaled by a floorboard only four inches long.
There are two games left on Friday night (Duke vs. Troy and South Carolina vs. Marquette) so good on the folks in Greenville for rectifying the situation before we truly had some real March madness.
