Three of the four No. 1 seeds in the tournament have already fallen, as Syracuse lost to Ole Miss and Iowa lost to TCU in the second round, and California was knocked off in the opener, blowing this tournament wide open.
The lone remaining No. 1 seed, Illinois State, will see No. 4 UCF to open things off on Monday followed by a duel of the upset teams. No. 6 Texas-Arlington, which shocked No. 3 BYU in blowout fashion, plays No. 7 Akron, which upset No. 2 Houston.
The night concludes with No. 2 Illinois playing No. 6 Boise State and No. 4 Colorado State taking on No. 8 CSU Bakersfield.
There isn’t much NBA talent to scout, but Malcolm Hill of Illinois is worth getting an early look at. He scored 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting in his opening round game against Valparaiso.
The senior guard currently sits No. 53 on Draft Express’ mock draft. For an up-and-down Illini team, Hill led with 17 points on 43 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent shooting from deep. He also pulled down five rebounds and dished three assists.
