South Carolina fans brought the ‘SEC’ chant to March Madness

They also ‘want Florida.’

South Carolina Gamecock basketball fans are lit, folks. Their No. 7-seeded team ran No. 3 Baylor out of the gym (Madison Square Garden in New York City, to be exact) and beat the Bears 70-50 on Friday night in the Sweet 16.

This win, coming on the heels of the Gamecocks’ upset victory over the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils in the second round, had South Carolina fans fired up on Friday night with the big victory. The Gamecocks will face the winner of the No. 4 Florida Gators and No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers. Apparently, South Carolina fans want the SEC matchup against Florida.

There was also a good ole’-fashioned “S-E-C” chant (typically a football chant) that broke out in The Garden, something I personally applaud the Gamecock faithful for starting, given how SEC basketball outside of Florida and Kentucky is perceived nationally.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, who was in attendance at MSG on Friday night, also was a big fan of the fired up crowd.

We’ll see later this evening if South Carolina fans will get their wish to face Florida in the tournament.
