Wisconsin mounted an impressive late comeback against Florida in the Elite Eight early Saturday morning. Florida ultimately won, but the comeback was still neat.
Wisconsin’s Zak Showalter hit a ridiculous 3-point runner before Florida did too
He somehow stayed behind the three-point arc, too.
With the clock ticking down in the final seconds, Badgers guard Zak Showalter took a running off-balance three-pointer after stumbling during a crossover. Showalter threw up a game-tying shot, and it somehow went in.
Wisconsin trailed by eight points with 1:45 left on the clock. Florida’s offense went cold after that, and the Badgers kept pressing. Bronson Koenig, a March hero for the Badgers before, hit a three-pointer. Ethan Happ made a layup. Florida didn’t ice the game at the line, and Showalter made the Gators pay with a preposterous shot.
Showalter also gets points for doing the Discount Double-Check after his shot — the move popularized by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The QB was in attendance, and he saw it and appreciated it, apparently.
The best thing to do after hitting the shot of your life is to enjoy the moment for a second or two. A shot like that happens pretty rarely.
Unfortunately for the Badgers, Florida’s Chris Chiozza answered with his own buzzer-beating, running three-pointer, and there was no time for UW to answer.
