South Carolina guard Rakym Felder wasn’t doing anything wrong. This is the Final Four, and Felder was driving toward the basket, trying to do nothing more than put points on the board for his Gamecocks. But Gonzaga Bulldogs guard Silas Melson is also in the Final Four and has diametrically opposite goals for Felder’s team.
Gonzaga waited until the Final Four to show off one of the prettiest blocks of the tournament
That’s gorgeous, Silas Melson.
Melson got impressively vertical to swat Felder’s shot away, and he had to time his block just right. He did, setting up a few Zags free throws on the other end.
By guard-on-guard standards, this is a positively ferocious block. We’ve seen bigger in the NCAA tournament, to be sure, but everything’s relative. And there was a certain majesty to watching Melson soar through the air, reach up and backward with one hand, and almost rake the shot out of the sky.
The winner of South Carolina-Gonzaga will play either Oregon or North Carolina in the national championship game on Monday night.
