Zion Williamson, 5-star super recruit, commits to Duke

The Blue Devils just keep pulling in the biggest prospects in the country.

Zion Williamson has committed to play for Mike Krzyzewski and Duke. The five-star forward from Spartanburg, S.C., chose not to stay home and picked the Blue Devils over South Carolina, Clemson, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Kansas, among others.

Williamson garnered fame for his vicious dunks that are other-worldly, especially for a 17 years old.

Williamson has over 1.1 million followers on Instagram (partially boosted after Drake wore his high school jersey) and over 100,000 on Twitter. He’s as well known as a teenage basketball player can be.

What does he bring on the court?

Few on Earth are built like 6’6, 275-pound Williamson. His stature makes him a force on the inside who can finish through contact. He’s got unheard of hops and unbelievable force to make all of his dunks and blocks SportsCenter top-10 nominees.

He’ll need to work on his jump shot though, which he’s struggled find consistent success with. But his pure strength alone will earn him buckets.

What does his commitment mean for Duke?

Williamson is yet another one-and-done caliber talent to take his game to Durham. If current Blue Devils freshmen Marvin Bagley III and Wendell Carter Jr. both choose to turn pro after this season, Williamson will be the main man in the paint for Duke next season.

It’ll be a hard transition for him as he figures out how to move from an overpowering big man out toward the wing, but the Blue Devils will certainly prioritize his development.

It’s a good day to be a Dukie.
