Arizona Wildcats junior guard Allonzo Trier was cleared to play Thursday night by the NCAA amid appeal of his suspension for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, the university announced.
Allonzo Trier cleared to play for Arizona amid NCAA suspension appeal
The junior guard missed two games after positive PED test

“We just received word that Allonzo Trier has been cleared for participation and will play in tonight’s game versus Stanford,” the school tweeted. “We appreciate the NCAA granting this appeal and their understanding of this unique situation.”
Trier was suspended indefinitely by the NCAA on Feb. 28 for a positive PED test. This followed Trier missing the first 19 games of the 2016-17 season as well for another PED test, referenced by Trier’s mother Marcie in a statement last week to ESPN:
“I am devastated and heartbroken by what has transpired in the last few days. My son has not violated any NCAA rules this season. Last year Allonzo won his appeal, yet served a 19-game suspension for unknowingly taking a drug that the NCAA agreed as taken without his knowledge following a car accident.
“Recently, a trace amount of the same drug was found in his system and that minuscule amount is why he missed those games last year. One of the top drug and toxicologist Doctors in the U.S. stated that the amount detected in Allonzo’s urine is the equivalent of six grains of salt in 10 Olympic Sized swimming pools, and had zero effect on his performance.”
Trier is averaging 19.6 points per game this season on 54-percent shooting for the Wildcats (22-7, 12-4), who entered Friday in first place in the Pac-12 Conference with two games left to play.
Arizona split a road trip last week without Trier, winning in overtime at Oregon State and losing in overtime at Oregon. The Wildcats host Stanford Thursday and Cal on Saturday, with the Pac-12 Tournament starting March 7 in Paradise, Nevada.
