Zach Norvell saved Gonzaga from being March Madness’ first upset victim

UNC Greensboro may have upset Gonzaga without this shot from Norvell.

Gonzaga is a trendy Final Four pick in the West region, but the Zags were on the ropes in their first-round game against UNC Greensboro Thursday. Gonzaga found itself down by two when Jordy Kuiper hit a layup with 1:46 left.

The Zags would tie the game, then take control on this three-pointer from Zach Norvell. That’s an absurdly big shot from a redshirt freshman guard: he was just 2-of-11 from the field before he sank it. That was all Gonzaga needed for a 68-64 win.

Norvell finished with 15 points and the Zags lived to see another day. They get the winner of Ohio State vs. South Dakota State.
