Loyola-Chicago hit another clutch shot to move 1 win away from the Final Four

The Sweet 16 matchup between Loyola-Chicago and Nevada was an absolute thriller.

With a minute left, a Nevada three-pointer made it 64-63. On the other end, Loyola-Chicago’s Aundre Jackson was sent to the line to hit free throws and he made both to make it 66-63. Nevada’s Cody Martin was then fouled on the next possession, which pulled the Wolf Pack back within one.

With less than 30 seconds left, Loyola-Chicago’s offense had the ball and was set on running out as much clock as possible. With not much left on the shot clock, Marques Townes pulled up and hit a clutch three pointer to make it 69-65.

On the next possession amazingly, Nevada’s Caleb Martin made a counter three to pull within one point with 1.8 left. Nevada tried to foul at the very end, but the clock ran out before it could be called.

The game was back-and-forth throughout — Nevada came out hot in the first half, but Loyola was able to take back the lead at the end of the first half. Although the Ramblers came into the second half with a 28-24 lead and were able to build on that throughout, a 12-2 run from Nevada let the Wolf Pack tie it up with 3:18 to go. It was much more of the same in the last few minutes of the game.

With the thrilling victory, Loyola Chicago faces the winner of the Kansas State-Kentucky matchup in Atlanta for the South Regional Final on Saturday night.
