The second day of the Sweet 16 will finalize the last of the Elite Eight teams, and, in all likelihood, shatter whatever’s left of our pitiful brackets. March Madness 2018 has ruined us all, testing our heart rate and appetite as top seed after top seed came crashing down in the opening rounds to schools we’ve had to google to determine their existence.

On Friday night, four games will determine four spots in the quarterfinal matchups. Two of those games will include the final two No. 1 seeds, Kansas and Villanova, who look to escape the clutches of Clemson and West Virginia, respectively, from upset.

Jevon Carter and No. 5 West Virginia’s press has its biggest task of the season ahead, as the Mountaineers try to contain the No. 1 offense in the country. The Wildcats have shooters upon shooters, including a prize forward in Mikal Bridges who can fire from anywhere. It’ll be an up-tempo and star-studded matchup.

The No. 5 Clemson Tigers were picked to finish No. 13 in the ACC, yet they’ve outlasted UNC and Virginia in the tournament. The Gabe DeVoe-led Tigers will play the Jayhawks in a backcourt-oriented game with stars at every guard position, including Big 12 Player of the Year Devonte’ Graham.

Rounding out the night is No. 2 Duke vs. No. 11 Syracuse, and No. 2 Purdue vs. No. 3 Texas Tech.

Nobody knows if the Boilermakers’ center, Isaac Haas, will be able to play through his broken right elbow, but if he can’t, all eyes will be on the backup, Matt Haarms. The 7’2 replacement will have a tough task in keeping Red Raiders guard Keenan Evans away from the rim, and limit Tech’s best scorer.

Duke will have to fight through a zone defense that’s trapped Arizona State, TCU, and Michigan State in three upset wins for the Orange. Will Marvin Bagley III and Wendell Carter be able to crack the weaknesses in Syracuse’s defense and stop the No. 11 seed’s run?
