Kansas State beat Kentucky, 61-58, Thursday night in stunning, sloppy fashion to advance to the Elite Eight. This one came down to the wire. K-State’s Barry Brown Jr. made an absolutely clutch layup to take a two-point lead with 18 seconds left.

At the other end, Kentucky’s three-point shot attempt was no good, which sealed K-State’s victory, and ended UK’s season in the process. The attempt was pretty dang close, though!
The last half of this game was sloppy, but fun to watch. Kansas State lost its leading scorer Xavier Snead to five fouls with 1:14 to go. Free throws from P.J. Washington tied it up at 58 all.
With 1:32 to go, Washington went to the line with a chance for an and-1, and he missed the shot, giving K-State the ball back, getting fouled underneath. K-State made both free throws to take a one-point edge.
Inside three minutes, K-State got a huge and-1, but missed the free throw to keep it a one-point game.
Before tonight, Kansas State was 0-9 all-time against Kentucky
Sneed had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead K-State. Brown scored 13 in the win. Kentucky was led by 18 points from Washington.
Kentucky was the heavy favorite in the South Region after the top four seeds were upset before the Sweet 16. Kansas State was seen as a team that only advanced to the second weekend because it got to play No. 16 UMBC in the round of 32.
No one saw this K-State run coming. Now it sets up one of the most unlikely regional finals in recent moment.
Kansas State will take on the Cinderella Loyola-Chicago Saturday night in Atlanta for a spot in the Final Four.
