From March 3-6, the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association tournament will be hosted in the North Charleston (S.C.) Coliseum for the second consecutive year. The CAA should be a one-bid league for the NCAA Tournament, so the only way into the field is to win this event.

The stakes

Charleston earned the No. 1 seed after finishing the regular season atop the CAA standings, and with a 23-7 overall record. Northeastern got the No. 2 seed, with an identical 14-4 conference record as Charleston — the Cougars had a better overall record, however. Hofstra has the No. 3 seed, with Williams & Mary and Towson rounding out the top five seeds.

The format

All 10 CAA teams qualify for the tournament. The bottom four teams play first-round games, while everyone else gets a bye. It’s a simple, single-elimination structure. The games take place in North Charleston, S.C., and the entire event unfolds over four days — one round per day.
