The 2018 Mid American Conference men’s basketball tournament was decided over six days, concluding at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The Buffalo Bulls were the favorite this year after winning the regular season title and securing its first ever one seed in the MAC tournament.

The Stakes

Winning the regular season MAC title means Buffalo has an automatic bid to the National Invitational Tournament. The Bulls will need to win the entire MAC tournament to punch a ticket to the big dance. Toledo and Eastern Michigan are expected to be the top two challengers to Buffalo.

The format

The MAC tournament is single elimination with the 1-4 seeds playing in the quarterfinal. Every team in the conference plays in the tournament and thus has a chance to punch an automatic ticket to the dance in March. First round games will be played on campuses while the quarterfinals and finals will be played in Quicken Loans Arena. The rules for this actually changed before the 2016 tournament
