In the ongoing corruption scandal embroiling college basketball for months, federal prosecutors in New York added charges on Tuesday against a former Adidas rep, Jim Gatto, which allege payments to families of players at four universities.

Miami and Louisville have been involved with the scandal since the start, but this is the first time Kansas has been named in the FBI investigation. Kansas and Adidas allegedly worked to funnel a payment to the parent of a player who was a top recruit.
NC State is also new to this, though former star Dennis Smith Jr. was named in the raid into agent Andy Miller’s office. The report states Gatto paid one athlete’s parents $40,000 to maintain his commitment to the Wolfpack.
The statement alleges that $90,000 was funneled to a student at Kansas, $150,000 to a student at Miami, and $100,000 to a student at Louisville.

Meanwhile, Miami gave its head coach a new contract
In a bit of awkward timing, Miami basketball extended head coach Jim Larranaga’s contract for the next two seasons, just hours before this new information was released. He is now under contract through the 23-24 season.
Miami was previously named so none of this is that surprising. This is simply how college basketball works these days.
