Villanova lands Albany grad transfer Joe Cremo

The rich got richer Tuesday as reigning national champion Villanova added one of the top grad transfers on the market to its roster for the 2018-19 season.

Joe Cremo, a 6’4 guard averaged who 17.8 point, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game last season for Albany, announced on Twitter he’ll spend his final year of college at ‘Nova.

The addition of Cremo, who shot 45.8 percent from three last season, would have been big for Villanova under any circumstances. It will become monstrous if national championship game hero Donte DiVincenzo winds up keeping his name in the NBA Draft. Wildcat forward Omari Spellman also has a decision to make that will have a huge impact on the landscape of college basketball for next season.

Though he turned heads with his sensational outside shooting last season, Cremo expressed a desire throughout the recruiting process to go somewhere where he would be used in more than just a catch-and-shoot role. Villanova’s free-flowing, guard-centered offense would seem to be a perfect fit for that, especially with multiple key pieces from last year’s championship team leaving the fold.

Cremo received interest from more than 30 schools after announcing in March he would be leaving Albany. He took visits to Villanova, Creighton, Texas, and Kansas before ultimately settling on Jay Wright’s program.
