Nebraska Football Recruiting: National Signing Day Commitments, Needs And Targets

Nebraska’s small class needs work, but could get the right pieces on signing day.

The information for this Nebraska football recruiting National Signing Day preview is provided by Andy Ketterson, of SB Nation's excellent Nebraska site, Corn Nation. Looking for National Signing Day coverage of other teams or recruits? Head to SB Nation College Football Recruiting.

Nebraska hasn’t exactly been lighting up the recruiting trail of late. It’s not that the ‘Huskers commitments are untalented. Just the opposite, in fact, as four of Nebraska’s commitments are rated four stars or better. Granted, that’s not enough talent to contend for the Big Ten crown with Michigan and Ohio State tearing it up, but it’s enough to hold one’s own in the conference.

The problem is numbers. As in, Nebraska needs more players than it is currently bringing in. But they do have a chance to close strong and make this class a success.

The top need for the Huskers is unquestionably offensive tackle Andrus Peat. From National Signing Day 2012: The Top 25 Uncommitted Recruits:

Andrus Peat. Another excellent offensive tackle from the West. This 6’7”, 280-pound pass protector is out of Arizona. No ‘Zona schools are in contention, however, as Peat will select from the Nebraska Cornhuskers, USC and Stanford. His brother plays for Nebraska and they are the overwhelming favorite. Peat is a consensus five-star player.

If Nebraska lands Peat, this class will likely be a success. But it won’t be complete.

The cornerback class is currently a huge need. The Huskers do have a commitment from Mo Seisay, a JUCO player with several BCS offers. But Andy Ketterson of Corn Nation says they need at least one more.

Two spots at which the Huskers seem to be done is at defensive end and linebacker, with a combined six commitments between the two positions.

Check out Ketterson’s article on Corn Nation for the rest of Nebraska’s recruiting needs.
