Robert Nkemdiche says Clemson decommitment wasn’t forced by family

No. 1 high school football recruit Robert Nkemdiche said that his decision to decommit from the Clemson Tigers was his decision alone and not forced upon him by his family.

Robert Nkemdiche, the nation's No. 1 high school recruit in football, said that his recent decommitment from the Clemson Tigers was his decision and not one forced on him by his family.

In an interview with ESPN’s Kipp Adams, the 6’5, 260 lbs. defensive end from Loganville, Georgia told Adams that he wanted to look at other schools without having his commitment to the Tigers over his head:

“Decommitting was not a family thing; it was my decision. My parents did not even know. It was just different things about how I was feeling. I felt like decommitting gave me a chance to back up and really pay attention to other schools without people saying I am cheating on Clemson.”

In addition to Clemson, Nkemdiche is currently considering offers from Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss, where his brother Denzel plays as a freshman linebacker. Nkemdiche will visit the Rebels this weekend when they face Vanderbilt on Saturday.

There are some murmurs about a possible commitment to Ole Miss this weekend, but Nkemdiche was quick to quell those rumors, saying that he just wants to enjoy time with his family.

Nkemdiche told Adams that he expects to make a final decision sometime in January after making all five of his official visits.
