Missouri Recruiting 2013: Jake Campos Commits To Tigers

The Missouri Tigers continued recent recruiting momentum on Thursday morning, securing a pledge from West Des Moines (IA) Valley offensive tackle Jake Campos.

The big offensive lineman is the 12th commit for the Tigers already in the 2013 class, and the third four-star commit by Rivals -- joining linebacker Nick Ramirez and athlete Chase Abbington -- which already represents more four-star prospects than Missouri secured in the 2012 class.

At 6-7 and 250 pounds, Campos is exceptionally light, even for a high school offensive lineman, but he’s considered one of the top players in the state of Iowa and, as previously mentioned, is ranked as a four-star prospect by Rivals and Scout, though 247Sports has not yet ranked him. He held offers from Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oregon, Purdue and Vanderbilt.

Unsurprisingly for someone of the size and weight of Campos, he moves extremely well in space -- his feet and athleticism are two of his stronger traits at this point. Valley uses their big tackle as a blocker on screens plays and pulling on running plays, so there is plenty of evidence of how well he moves.

When firing off the ball, Campos has some understandable issues with his pad level and consistently keeping a flat back and firing through his hips, but he does use solid hand placement and keeps his feet moving on contact to finish plays.

The area for the greatest growth with him will obviously be in putting on the mass necessary to compete in the SEC, but the Tigers prefer lighter offensive linemen with agility and there’s no question that Campos fits that mold.
