QB Max Staver Commits To Florida Gators

As suggested by SB Nation’s Alligator Army on Saturday, Florida indeed was closing in on its quarterback target, Max Staver. On Monday, Florida offered Staver, who pulled the trigger, committing to the Gators.

Staver is 6’6, 235-pound pro-style quarterback from Brentwood (TN) Academy. He chose the Gators over offers from Mississippi State and Louisville, though with both the Bulldogs and Cardinals taking quarterbacks previously, it’s unknown if his offers were still committable.

Staver is a consensus three-star recruit, though ESPN does award him a rating of four stars. The primary reason for this is that Staver has a big arm. Really big. The offense in which he plays appears to be mostly shotgun. Staver can move a little, which one might not expect given his size. Importantly, he shows the ability to avoid the rush inside the pocket, reset his feet, and get rid of the ball. The delivery is a bit low, but at 6’6 it might not matter all that much.

Staver is Florida’s 18th commitment of the 2013 class.
