Maurice Hurst Jr., a top defensive tackle recruit, committed to the Michigan Wolverines Saturday, according to a report by ESPN. Hurst, the son of the former New England Patriots defensive back of the same name, plays for Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Mass. He is rated four stars by Scout and 247sports, and three stars by ESPN and Rivals. Hurst also holds offers from Boston College, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Virginia, though the legitimacy of those offers could not be verified.

The commitment came during an unofficial visit to Michigan and on the heels of a visit to Michigan State.

Hurst stands 6’2” and weighs in at 290 pounds. Hurst’s game is that of a penetrating three-technique defensive tackle, using his quickness to get in the backfield and disrupt plays before they develop. Hurst should be able to rush the passer effectively. He does not have a massive frame and will likely never be a two-gap player.

Hurst is the 19th commitment in the 2013 class for the Wolverines. Michigan is in the running for the nation’s top class.
