Ricky Seals-Jones Reveals Commitment Odds At Five-Star Challenge

Ever since decommitting from Texas nearly three weeks ago, 2013 Sealy athlete Ricky Seals-Jones has mostly gone silent regarding the status of recruitment.

Checking in at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta meant that Seals-Jones had to face the media and make what are now rare public comments.

The comment that will send message boards for a number of schools into a frenzy?

The athlete from Sealy measured in at 6-5 and 230 pounds at the event and spoke with the media for one of the few times since his decision to decommit from Texas several weeks ago. He shared his thoughts on his visits to Texas A&M and Texas last week.

On the visit to College Station:

I went to both A&M and Texas last week. At (the) A&M, I saw the campus, met the coaches, played a little five-on-five basketball with the current team. It’s a nice campus and a nice program.

At first, Coach Sumlin wasn’t there ... but after I checked out the basketball facility, he came through. We sat down and talked a little bit about the program and the school. He was real cool.

On the visit to Texas and Mack Brown changing his plans at the last minute:

They had some kind of coaches’ meeting out of town or something. We weren’t going to come that day but (Brown) said to come, and I guess he cancelled his trip. It kind of showed me how they feel about me. It showed that they think I’m very important to their program.

RSJ also mentioned that he will visit LSU next week and the two Texas schools, as well as Baylor and Oregon.

As far as his future position, his current weight of 230 pounds has once again increased speculation that he won’t be able to stay at wide receiver, but the jumbo athlete is intent on doing so:

He’s being recruited as a wide receiver and wants to stay there, but he may have to work hard to stay lean enough to keep the lateral quickness and overall speed that make him such a rare prospect.

But regarding his recruitment, virtually all the news regarding the recruitment of Seals-Jones has been positive for Texas, which will also benefit from RSJ spending the weekend rooming with Tyrone Swoopes.
