Ricky Seals-Jones De-Commits From Texas, Wants To Play Basketball In College

In shocking news on Tuesday evening for Texas Longhorn fans from Scout recruiting analyst Greg Powers, now-former 2013 Texas commit Ricky Seals-Jones, who only days ago ran a 4.4 40 at the Sunday Texas mini-camp and excelled at receiver as well, has opened up his recruitment:

However, the prospect known as RSJ is still considering Texas:

Shocking may even be an understatement at this point, as there were no rumblings that Seals-Jones was unhappy with his Longhorn commitment, or that he was so set on playing basketball in college.

Texas is still high on the list. I just wanted to look around and make sure that Texas is the right place for me and not take anything for granted.

It’s not clear at this time if there is opposition on the part of Texas basketball coach Rick Barnes to Seals-Jones playing basketball for the Longhorns, but there’s no doubt that he’s capable of playing the sport at the high-major level -- otherwise he wouldn’t have the opportunity to do so at schools like Baylor, Texas A&M, and LSU, the schools that are currently under consideration.

One of the top football players in the country by most services, stealing Seals-Jones from the Longhorns would be a major coup for each of those programs, as his combination of size and athleticism -- including his lateral quickness and overall speed -- is extraordinarily rare.
